When I was asked what kind of shoe I wanted to review, I let the PR agent know that I needed a shoe that was good for walking home from school, running up and down 3 flights of stairs multiple times a day, plus something he could play gym class with. She let me know the NB 890 would be the perfect shoe.

We received the NB 890 GB on September 8th. My son is the one that has tested the shoe out because he is the most active out of us all. As he was opening the shoe, he was delighted with how stylish the shoes are. After he got the shoes laced up, he walked around a little bit. It didn't take him long to realize that the NB shoes are very light-weight. They hold to his feet well and don't clomp around like other heavier shoes.
The first day he brought them to school, several of his school mates noticed they were new shoes. There is something about 12 year old boys and shoes. Many of the boys commented on how cool they were. My son let them know that they are really comfortable too.
My son enjoys how his feet feel in the shoes are he is running up the three flights of stairs in the 3 allotted minutes. They are also wonderful for playing gym in, as he can lift his feet easier because of the light-weight material in the shoe.
As a mother, my son's self-confidence is important to me. Style for children and good quality are important. New Balance is both stylish and apparently comfortable. I know for some, the price is high, but if you want a great shoe then you can save money by waiting until they go on sale.

Information from New Balance
BOSTON, October 2010 – This spring 2011 Boston-based New Balance will introduce a truly one-of-a-kind neutral running shoe for the everyday runner. The New Balance 890,featuring a unique, innovative, and revolutionary new foam compound, REVlite, is designed for the neutral runner who wants to run fast or feel fast in a lightweight package, without sacrificing durability, cushioning, or support. The New Balance 890 will launch on February 15, 2011 in two colors for men and women and retail for $100.00.
Weighing in at a mere 9.7 ounces (men’s 9.5), the New Balance 890 is the lightest shoe of its kind in the neutral cushioning category, the fastest growing segment in the running shoe industry. To achieve this lightness, the shoe doesn’t sacrifice cushioning, stability or durability, nor does it reduce underfoot cushioning or greatly minimize the construction, the stack heights, or change the heel to forefoot drop. Instead, through use of the REVlite midsole foam neutral runners have a surprisingly light running experience, but feel safe, secure, and comfortable treating this shoe as their high mileage trainer.
ABZORB® cushioning crash pads work to absorb initial shock and provide the right amount of lateral release to guide the foot smoothly through toe off. Full ground contact through the midsole allows for very stable geometries, and provides inherent stability that can withstand pronation due to fatigue.
The 890 upper package is bold, edgy, and eye catching. The shoe cosmetics are confident with a modern appeal. No-sew upper materials hold the foot securely while adding to the surprisingly light experience. The shoe will also feature the name “Baddley” and “Barringer” on the men’s and women’s version, respectively. These names stand for Team NB runners Andy Baddeley and Jenny Barringer, who served as the inspiration for the design and development of these shoes.
The overall fit of the 890 is soft and supple with a dialed in midfoot wrap, an open and rounded vamp, and comfortable, irritation-free flex points. The 890 features a delicate package but still with all the protection and durability required to endure lots of miles.
